Kaziranga Reserve and TSA Foundation Partner to Save Endangered Turtles

Kaziranga Tiger Reserve and TSA Foundation India have partnered to conserve freshwater turtles, including the critically endangered black softshell turtle (Nilssonia nigricans). The initiative involves collecting and incubating turtle eggs from Nagsankar Temple, protecting them from predators.

Hatchlings are given neonatal care and released into wetlands after three months. Over 600 turtles have been reintroduced since the project began. Officials stressed the turtles’ ecological role as “vultures of the water,” vital for maintaining aquatic health. Community participation and awareness are key to the program’s success.
