Assam GST Official Caught Taking Bribe in Vigilance Operation

The Assam Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate arrested Loni Barman, Nazir of the State GST office, Sribhumi, for demanding a ₹10,000 bribe to release a vehicle. The complainant reported the matter, leading to a trap operation on February 12 near Nilambazar. Barman was caught red-handed accepting ₹10,700, and the tainted money was seized. A case was registered under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at the ACB Police Station.
