Assam Legislative Assembly Introduces Stringent Bill to Tackle Exam Paper Leaks and Unfair Means

In the first day of the Budget Session, the Assam Legislative Assembly presented the Assam Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024. The bill aims to combat the leakage of question papers and the use of unfair means in public examinations. Offenders may face imprisonment ranging from five to ten years or fines ranging from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 10 crore. Additionally, the Central Government introduced the Public Examination Bill 2024 in Parliament, proposing ten years of imprisonment and a Rs. 1 crore fine for paper leaks and examination irregularities. These measures follow criticisms of a paper leakage incident during the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination in 2023.
