Assam Reclaims 660 Hectares of Forest Land in Sribhumi Eviction Drive

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 660 hectares of encroached forest land have been cleared in Sribhumi district over the past two days, with another 220 hectares yet to be reclaimed. The eviction drive is part of the government’s ongoing effort to protect reserved forest areas.

The operation follows similar drives in Hailakandi district, where eviction notices were issued to around 1,000 families. While many residents have begun vacating the land, concerns have been raised over the lack of rehabilitation and alternative arrangements. The state government has indicated that such eviction drives will continue.
