Assam Reviews Preparations for PM Modi’s December 20–21 Visit

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a review meeting in Dibrugarh to finalise arrangements ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit beginning December 20. Modi will inaugurate the new Guwahati Airport terminal on December 20 and lay the foundation stone for a major project at the Namrup Fertilizer Plant the next day.
The new plant will have a urea production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes, with the Assam government investing 40%. Construction is expected to take about three to three-and-a-half years. Sarma said 24 companies, including firms from Japan, Korea, and India, have shown interest in the tender.
A mega rally is scheduled in Dibrugarh on December 21, with an expected turnout of nearly one lakh people. Modi may also discuss the NDA’s strategy for the 2026 Assembly elections during his visit.
