Assam to Establish 24 Medical Colleges by 2029-30

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans to build 24 medical colleges in Assam by 2029-30, expanding healthcare access. The announcement came during the inauguration of Pragjyotishpur Medical College in Guwahati, the state’s 14th medical college.

The ₹496 crore facility has 505 beds and modern hostel facilities. A cancer screening program for 1 crore people and a health worker HRMS portal were also launched. The Ayushman Bharat Card will ensure affordable treatment, with CSR contributions covering expenses above ₹5 lakh. Indus Tower pledged ₹2.43 crore for cancer detection in nine districts.
