Assam to Launch Peer-to-Peer Green Energy Trading Model for Solar Energy Prosumers

The Assam government plans to introduce a peer-to-peer green energy trading model allowing rooftop solar energy prosumers to sell surplus energy to neighboring consumers via a digital platform. This initiative, set for rollout in the next financial year, will offer consumers affordable green power while enabling prosumers to earn additional income.

Surplus energy will be traded dynamically through a platform, with transactions reflecting in electricity bills. Unsold energy will revert to the distribution licensee. The system aims to reduce grid strain, energy loss, and upfront solar installation costs.

Currently, 2.78 lakh consumers have applied for the PM Surya Ghar Scheme, with 3,000 installations completed. The state expects to reach 20,000 installations by year-end.
