Assam Unveils Policy to Become Thermal Power Hub by 2032

Assam cabinet has approved the Thermal Power Generation Product Promotion Policy 2025 to meet rising energy demand, expected to reach 5,000 MW by 2032. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced free land, infrastructure support, and up to 27% government equity for companies setting up thermal plants. Sites in Kokrajhar and Goalpara are identified. Power will be coal-based, with sourcing from Jharkhand and West Bengal. Surplus power may be sold to neighboring states and countries.
