Assam’s Singpho Heritage and Bisa Raja History Reach Japan

The history of the Singpho community and the legacy of Bisa Raja in Assam’s Margherita region have gained international attention after a Japanese research team selected two books on the subject for preservation and research in Japan.

A six-member team from Japan visited Margherita to study the traditional Singpho tea culture, especially the indigenous ‘Falap’ tea. The researchers also visited historic Bisa village in Ledo and interacted with Bisa Raja Mungdang Gam Singpho.

The team collected copies of two books written by author Jagat Changmai on the history of Bisa Raja and the Singpho community. The researchers praised the works and expressed interest in continuing cultural and historical research in Assam.
