BJP’s Candidate Naming Blunder Raises Concerns Ahead of Assam Elections

In a prelude to the Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its candidates for 11 seats in Assam, inadvertently exposing a significant error in constituency names. The confusion stems from the party’s failure to align with the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) post-delimitation changes, where seats were restructured and renamed.

However, the BJP’s candidate announcement reflected a lack of awareness regarding these changes. Key errors included mislabeling the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency as reserved when it is unreserved, and vice versa for Silchar. Additionally, the party referred to non-existent constituencies like Mangaldoi and Tezpur, failing to acknowledge the updated names Darrang-Udalguri and Sonitpur.
