Boro Lokhindong Villagers Protest Against Mining Plans

Residents of Boro Lokhindong village in Dima Hasao are shocked as the government moves forward with a mining project on 9,000 bighas of land near Umrangso. Villagers allege the decision was made without their consent, despite repeated appeals.

Previously displaced by a NEEPCO dam, they now fear further loss of land, livelihoods, and environmental degradation. Activists Linson and Jonto Ronghang criticized the government’s disregard for villagers’ concerns, warning of eroding public trust.

Locals cited pollution from Dalmiya Cement’s mining as a warning. They urged environmentalists to intervene, stressing the issue’s statewide and national impact.
