China’s Hydropower Project on Yarlung Tsangpo Poses Threat to India and Southeast Asia

Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao warned about China’s plan to build a 60,000 MW hydropower project on the Yarlung Tsangpo River, calling it a “water bomb” that threatens India’s Northeast and Southeast Asia. Gao highlighted risks of devastating floods, environmental damage, and regional instability. He emphasized Tibet’s importance for India’s security and urged collective action against China’s hydropower ambitions. Gao also advocated honoring the Dalai Lama with the Bharat Ratna for his contributions to peace and Buddhism. The remarks were made at the “Environment and Security” seminar in Arunachal Pradesh.
