Closure of Government Schools Raises Concern in Sonitpur

Sonitpur: The proposed closure and merger of 214 government schools in Sonitpur district has sparked concern over the future of Assamese and Bodo medium government schools in Assam. The list includes several historic institutions, prompting opposition from local residents and education stakeholders.

Critics, including the Sonitpur district AASU, have urged the government to strengthen school infrastructure and recruit more teachers instead of closing schools. The government, however, maintains that the rationalisation exercise is aimed at improving access to education and ensuring better utilisation of resources.
