CM Sarma Addresses Frisking Controversy for Assam Recruitment Exams
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that female candidates for the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) will undergo consensual frisking. This decision follows controversy after a female candidate, Nabanita Sarma, described her frisking experience at a Nalbari exam center as “disgraceful,” alleging inappropriate touching by security personnel.
Sarma emphasized that frisking will be conducted at an airport level for all candidates, with alternatives for those who object. He acknowledged concerns about candidates potentially bringing prohibited items and stated that a standard operating procedure (SOP) will be developed to ensure the dignity of female candidates, in line with court guidelines and Women’s Commission recommendations. The next ADRE exam is set for September 29.
