Communal Tension Erupts in Karimganj Over Alleged Durga Idol Desecration

Tensions arose in Karimganj on Wednesday after an alleged attempt to desecrate a Durga idol during the Durga Puja festivities. Three individuals—Sahabul Ahmed (24), Abdul Ahad (18), and a minor—were arrested in connection with the incident in Manasangan village.

The clash began when someone reportedly threw cooked rice at the idol, leading to a confrontation between two communities. Local authorities, including the District Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, urged calm and arranged for a new idol. Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha also visited the area, and officials are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further unrest.
