Cotton University Students’ Union General Secretary Joins BJP in Assam; Calls for Restoration of Varsity’s Glory

The General Secretary of Cotton University Students’ Union (CUSU), Javed Akhtar, and several other youths joined the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Assam’s Jorhat district. The joining event took place at the Jorhat district BJP office, with the presence of State BJYM President Sidhanku Ankur Barua and State BJP President Bhabesh Kalita. Kalita emphasized that the new additions would strengthen the BJP, while Sidhanku highlighted the positive changes under the BJP government.

Javed Akhtar, now a BJP member, urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take steps to restore Cotton University’s lost glory, emphasizing the need to elevate it among the top five universities in the country. Akhtar also expressed concerns about disruptions in the academic atmosphere during student-led movements, referencing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
