Crackdown on IPL Betting Rackets in Assam: Authorities Apprehend Suspects

Authorities in Tamarhat, Assam, launched a crackdown operation against illegal betting activities associated with the Indian Premier League (IPL), resulting in the apprehension of three individuals. Joynal Sheikh, Imran Sheikh, and Usman Ghani alias Firoz were detained from Hatidhura Market, a hotspot for illicit betting. Joynal Sheikh, identified as a field coordinator for Jal Jeevan Mission, was revealed to be the mastermind behind the betting activities. This crackdown underscores the authorities’ resolve to combat illegal gambling, especially concerning high-profile sporting events like the IPL. In a recent raid in Dhubri district’s Gauripur, two bookies, Taiyyab Ali and Abdul Malek, were arrested, and a substantial amount of cash was seized. Investigations into both cases are ongoing as authorities aim to dismantle the entire network involved in illegal betting activities.
