DBT Schemes Key to Poverty Reduction in Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes have played the biggest role in reducing poverty in Assam, with the state’s multidimensional poverty rate falling from 32.67% in 2015 to 14.47%. He said the government aims to bring the rate down to a single digit through welfare schemes such as Orunodoi, Nijut Moina, and free foodgrain distribution.
Sarma also credited Central government support for major infrastructure projects in Assam and urged legislators to promote entrepreneurship, development, and youth empowerment to achieve sustained economic growth.
