Debabrata Saikia Seeks High Court Supervision in Zubeen Garg Death Probe

Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia has urged the Gauhati High Court to abolish the one-man judicial commission probing Zubeen Garg’s death, citing overlap with the ongoing SIT investigation.
In a letter to the Chief Justice, Saikia called for a Special Bench to monitor the SIT probe to ensure transparency and avoid duplication. He argued that the judicial commission lacks authority and could delay justice.
Saikia also highlighted jurisdictional limits of the SIT in probing abroad and urged coordinated action through central agencies. He said judicial oversight would ensure fairness, accountability, and public trust in the high-profile case.
