Delhi Police Cyber Cell Unveils Major Breakthrough in Cybercrime Investigation

New Delhi, 12 March 2024 NN: In a significant development, the Cyber Cell Wing of the Delhi Police has announced a breakthrough in a high-profile cybercrime investigation related to child pornography, pedophilia, and explicit online content. This operation, conducted in collaboration with the INTELLIGENCE BUREAU and INDIAN CYBER SQUARE, reveals a meticulous examination of an internet protocol (IP) address associated with alarming cyber activities.

The investigation, mandated by Mr. Tapan Deka, Director of the INTELLIGENCE BUREAU, focuses on the Computerized Seizure of Cyber-Infiltration linked to the following concerning activities: CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, PEDOPHILIA, CYBER PORNOGRAPHY, SEXUALLY EXPLICIT EXHIBIT, and GROOMING.

Under the Criminal Code Of India, specific sections of the POCSO Act 2012 and the Information Technology Act, 2000 criminalize the publication or transmission of sexually explicit acts or conduct involving juvenile pornography. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Indian Cybercrime Units are actively engaged in investigating and combating these offenses.

The Government’s measures include blocking websites containing extreme Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) based on INTERPOL’s “Worst-of-list.” The list is periodically shared with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), directing major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block such websites.

In an unprecedented move, the Cyber Cell has decided to reach out privately to the individuals involved before transferring case files to tribunal prosecutors for immediate prosecution. Individuals connected to the identified IP address are urged to respond within 24 hours, providing justifications for a further review.

Failure to respond within the given timeframe will result in the issuance of a warrant for arrest through the closest Police Station. Following prosecution, the information will be submitted to the National Register for Minor Sex Offenders, associations fighting against PEDOPHILIA, and the Media for publication.

The Cyber Cell emphasizes the urgency and seriousness of this matter, urging prompt cooperation from those involved to avoid legal consequences.
