Elephant Injured in Train Collision in Tripura
A full-grown elephant was injured after being struck by a speeding train in Tripura’s Khowai district on Saturday night. District Forest Officer Akshay Balu Bhorde stated the elephant, part of a herd, was moving when a local train traveling from Agartala to Dharmanagar hit it. Despite the train’s recommended speed of 20 km/h in the elephant corridor, it likely exceeded 50 km/h, causing severe injuries. Northeast Frontier Railway’s CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma confirmed an investigation is underway, while forest officials stress the need for stricter speed limits.
