Free LPG Cylinders During Bihu & Durga Puja Amid Supply Concerns in Assam

Amid ongoing concerns over LPG supply disruptions and alleged black marketing in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that eligible families will receive one free LPG cylinder each during Bihu and Durga Puja.

The announcement comes as authorities investigate irregularities in LPG distribution. Over 2,000 inspections have been conducted, with 18 distributors issued showcause notices following complaints and social media reports.

The supply issues have impacted daily life, especially roadside eateries and restaurants, many of which have reduced operations or switched to alternatives like electric cooking and firewood. Despite this, the government maintains there is no actual shortage and has urged people to avoid panic buying.

Officials confirmed that domestic LPG supply remains stable, while commercial LPG allocation has been increased by 10%.

In Mahmora, Sarma also announced plans to generate one lakh government jobs across sectors, including police, education, and healthcare. He further promised welfare support, free education for children if the BJP returns to power, and new infrastructure projects such as a police academy, ITI, and polytechnic institute.
