Gauhati HC Orders Survey of Sericulture Farm Near Ancient Monuments
The Gauhati High Court has directed the Cachar District Commissioner to survey and demarcate a Sericulture Farm to determine if it encroaches on protected land near ancient monuments.
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) alleges encroachment by individuals and government departments on Archaeological Survey of India-recognized sites. The Sericulture Department, which established the farm in 1967, agreed to vacate if necessary, pending demarcation by the Revenue Department.
The court set a four-week deadline for the survey and report submission, with the next hearing in six weeks.
