Gauhati HC Seeks Updated Report on Police Vacancies in Four NE States

The Gauhati High Court has directed senior government advocates of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Nagaland to submit an updated report by January 31, 2026, on vacancies in police and State Armed Forces, along with details of ongoing recruitment and promotions.

Taking suo motu cognizance in a PIL transferred from the Supreme Court, the court said the move aims to ensure adequate police strength and reduce overburdening of personnel. The matter will be heard next on April 7, 2026.
