Gauhati High Court Directs Jail Inspections to Identify Children

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has directed Juvenile Justice Boards across Assam to inspect adult jails by October 31 and identify any children lodged there. Any child found must be transferred to an appropriate observation home or place of safety under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.

Hearing a PIL filed by Nandinee Das, the court also directed regular inspections, preferably every three months. Inspection reports must be submitted to the respective District Legal Services Authorities for forwarding to the Assam State Legal Services Authority.
