Gauhati High Court Grants Bail to ACS Officer Nupur Borah Over Procedural Lapses

The Gauhati High Court granted bail to Assam Civil Service officer Nupur Borah, citing procedural lapses in her arrest by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell. Borah was taken into custody at 8 pm without prior judicial approval, violating legal provisions for arresting women at night.

The court noted that the government’s counsel failed to counter the defence’s argument regarding the unlawful arrest. Borah was arrested on September 15 in a disproportionate assets case after officials seized ₹92.5 lakh in cash and gold jewellery from her Guwahati home.

She was serving as Circle Officer in Goroimari and is accused of corruption during her tenure in Barpeta. The case has sparked debate over due process and arrest protocols in vigilance operations.
