Himanta Biswa Sarma Welcomes Bengal Move to Strengthen Bangladesh Border Fencing

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday welcomed the West Bengal Cabinet’s decision to hand over land to the BSF for fencing the India-Bangladesh border, calling it a major step for the security of Assam and the Northeast.
Speaking in Guwahati, Sarma said infiltration issues in the Northeast cannot be fully addressed without securing the long Bangladesh border in West Bengal. He said the proposed fencing along an 800-km stretch would help strengthen border security and reduce illegal infiltration.
Sarma also termed the decision “historic” and congratulated the West Bengal Cabinet for the move.
