Gauhati High Court Quashes Case Against YouTuber Abhishek Kar

The Gauhati High Court has quashed the criminal case and charge sheet against YouTuber Abhishek Kar over his controversial remarks about Assamese women. The court ruled that his statements did not attract the penal provisions invoked by the police.

Allowing Kar’s petition, the court held that the remarks, though controversial, did not amount to obscenity under the IT Act or promote enmity between groups under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
