GMC Clarifies Desilting Process Amid Public Concerns

Guwahati Municipal Corporation has clarified its ongoing desilting operations after concerns were raised on social media regarding the process.

The GMC said riverbed dredging is a technically sensitive task that requires maintaining natural water flow and careful handling of heavy machinery. Officials stated that desilting is being carried out cautiously near the guard wall construction area to avoid disruption.

The corporation added that, due to urgency, a spread-out method was adopted where diluted silt is moved with the water current and later collected through dredging at a suitable location.
