GMC Evicts Illegal Footpath Stalls Ahead of Independence Day
Ahead of Independence Day, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) launched an eviction drive to clear unauthorised stalls from footpaths. The operation, which began on July 31, intensified in areas like Joyanagar, Beltola, Jalukbari, and Ganeshguri. Officials aim to improve the city’s appearance and ease traffic. However, vendors protested the sudden, late-night evictions, citing lack of prior notice and failure to provide alternative spaces. Many stalls, including long-standing food outlets, were dismantled with police support.
