Guwahati Citizens Protest Tree Felling for Flyover Construction
Over 300 Guwahati residents protested the felling of century-old trees along Dighalipukhuri due to flyover construction. Under the “Concerned Citizens of Guwahati” banner, they voiced concerns about environmental damage, heritage loss, and harm to migratory bird habitats. A letter was sent to the Prime Minister’s Office, urging intervention to protect the city’s greenery. Protesters, including writer Mainee Mahanta and advocate Angshuman Bora, stressed that development should coexist with environmental preservation. Congress leader Mira Borthakur criticized the government’s actions, calling for immediate steps to save the trees.
