Guwahati Endures Record Heatwave, Temperatures Exceed 40°C
Guwahati is grappling with extreme heat as temperatures soared past 40°C, marking the second-highest May temperature ever recorded. On Saturday, Guwahati’s Dispur area hit 40°C, while the airport and IIT areas recorded 39°C. This follows a three-day rise in temperatures.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) confirmed that the highest recorded temperature for May was 40.3°C, set on May 1, 1960. Other areas in Assam also faced severe heat, with Silchar and Nalbari both reaching 40.3°C.
Authorities have adjusted school schedules to protect students. Relief is expected as Cyclone Remal is predicted to bring rain to the northeastern states, including Assam, from May 26 to 28.
