Guwahati Police Busts Bank Account Scam, Four Arrested

Guwahati Police arrested four individuals involved in a bank account scam targeting vulnerable people. The suspects, Anvesh Chandra, Bablu Das, Chinmoy Chakraborty, and Abinash Mahato, were running a “mule account” scheme, tricking people into handing over control of their bank accounts for quick cash. The accounts were then used for illegal transactions. Police recovered 44 chequebooks, 49 debit cards, foreign currency, and other incriminating evidence. The investigation began after a complaint from a victim and led to the swift arrest of the suspects. Cybercrime in the region remains a growing concern, with over ₹35 crore stolen in Guwahati last year.
