High Voter Turnout Marks Peaceful Panchayat Polls in Sivasagar
The first phase of Assam Panchayat Elections saw high voter turnout in Sivasagar today. Voting began at 7:30 am across 858 booths and continued smoothly till 4:30 pm. A total of 2,291 candidates contested for posts in five regional panchayats, 12 zila parishads, and 82 village panchayats. Of 5.01 lakh voters, over half were women. Fifteen candidates were elected unopposed. Authorities reported peaceful polling with tight security and no major incidents.
