Historic Milestone: Union Cabinet Approves Rs 27,000-crore Semiconductor Plant in Assam
In a groundbreaking decision, the Union Cabinet has given the green light for the establishment of a Rs 27,000-crore semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, Assam. This marks the third semiconductor facility in India and the first in Assam, with Tata Semiconductor Assemble and Test Pvt. Ltd. partnering with the Assam Government for the venture.
The plant, set to be located at the Naogaon Papper Mill site, will have a daily production capacity of 48 million microchips. The undisclosed collaboration with a major global automobile company adds a significant ‘made in Assam’ mark to the microchips. The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, lauded the Prime Minister’s efforts, calling it Assam’s largest-ever private investment and a game-changer for the entire Northeast’s economy.
The project is expected to create a township, generating numerous direct and indirect employment opportunities. The move is praised by various leaders, emphasizing its transformative impact on the region’s technological and economic landscape.
