India Boosts Maritime Infrastructure to Attract Private Investment
The Government of India is focusing on infrastructure and skilled manpower development to attract private investment in the maritime sector, said Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Highlighting its eco-friendly and cost-effective nature, he stressed the need for infrastructure, including five new lighthouses along the Brahmaputra, which will also serve as tourist attractions.
A maritime skill development center in Dibrugarh is being upgraded to a center of excellence to address the shortage of skilled manpower. Several passenger and cargo jetties, along with cruise terminals in Guwahati and Dibrugarh, are under development. The first phase of the ship repair facility at Pandu is complete, addressing a key hurdle for investors. Sonowal assured that dredging efforts would maintain navigability despite seasonal river depth variations.
