Indian Railways Boosts North-East Connectivity with Major Projects
Indian Railways is enhancing connectivity in the north-eastern states through key projects under the ‘Capital Connectivity’ initiative and the ‘Act East Policy’. Anil Kumar Khandelwal, Member Infrastructure, Railway Board, inspected several significant projects from May 13th to May 15th, 2024.
Bhairabi-Sairang New Line Project: Connecting Mizoram with 93% completion, featuring 51.38 km of track, major and minor bridges, and extensive tunnels.
Jiribam-Imphal New Line Project: Connecting Manipur, 77% complete, includes the world’s tallest pier railway bridge at 141 meters.
Agartala-Akhaura International Rail Connectivity Project: Linking Agartala in India with Akhaura in Bangladesh, facilitating dual-gauge transport for passengers and goods.
These projects aim to improve regional connectivity, support local industries, and enhance socioeconomic growth, while also strengthening India-Bangladesh trade and tourism.
