Inland Waterways Boosted with Major Investment from Global Logistics Giant

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that inland waterway cargo has risen from 18 to 145 million tonnes in 10 years. Germany’s Rhenus Logistics will invest heavily, deploying 100 barges on Brahmaputra, Ganga, and Barak rivers. These barges can operate in shallow waters with just 2-metre depth. Dredging is ongoing from Sadiya to Dhubri, and ports are being linked to rail and road under Maritime India Vision 2030.
