Joint Rescue Operation Halts Wildlife Smuggling Ring in Assam-Mizoram Border Area

A joint effort by Assam Police and the Forest Department in the vicinity of the Mizoram border led to a significant rescue operation, saving numerous exotic birds and animals suspected to be part of a wildlife trafficking racket. Creatures such as Lory Blacks, Red & Blue Lorikeets, Babirusa Swines, and Hornbills were among those rescued. Two smugglers, Moinuddin Ali and Samsul Haque, were arrested, confessing to transporting the consignment from Mizoram to West Bengal for sale. The rescued animals, believed to have been smuggled through Myanmar, are currently housed securely and will be transferred to Assam Zoo in Guwahati. The operation underscores the need for increased vigilance and cooperation to combat wildlife trafficking and protect biodiversity. Further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the smuggling network and safeguard wildlife.
