Maruti Alto 800 Catches Fire on NH 27: Passengers Escape Unharmed

A horrific incident occurred last night on National Highway 27 at Simlaguri in Barpeta Road when a Maruti Alto 800 caught fire, completely engulfing the vehicle. Fortunately, all five passengers, including a child and two women, managed to escape unharmed. The vehicle, owned by Masood Saddam of Manikpur in Bongaigaon district, bore the registration number AS 01 EU 7533. Saddam was returning home from Guwahati with his wife, nephew, and nephew-in-law, who was driving.

As they neared Barpeta Road, the nephew-in-law noticed the car’s interior heating up and stopped near an under-construction flyover in Simlaguri. The car suddenly caught fire, but the passengers quickly evacuated. The fire brigade was notified and extinguished the flames, but the car and its contents, including mobile phones, important documents, and clothes, were completely destroyed. The incident caused significant commotion in the Simlaguri area.
