Meghalaya Police Gets ₹30 Crore Mobility Boost as Conrad Sangma Flags Off 95 New Vehicles

Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday flagged off 95 new vehicles for the Meghalaya Police worth nearly ₹30 crore, in a major push to strengthen policing infrastructure and improve law enforcement outreach across the state.

The fleet includes mini trucks, buses, and jeeps that will be deployed at the grassroots level to enhance mobility, operational efficiency, and emergency response capabilities of the police force. The initiative is aimed at improving policing services in both urban and remote areas of Meghalaya.

Sharing the development on X, Sangma said the new additions would help strengthen the operational capacity of the police department while ensuring better safety and security for citizens across the state.

“Glad to flag off 95 vehicles for the Meghalaya Police worth ₹30 Crore, including mini trucks, buses, and jeeps, to strengthen mobility and operational efficiency at the grassroots level,” Sangma posted on X.

He further stated that the vehicles would “enhance policing capabilities, improve response and outreach, and help ensure that citizens feel safer and more secure across the State.”

The Meghalaya Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to the state police personnel for their continued service and dedication toward maintaining law and order. “Thank our Police Force for their service to our people,” he added in the post.

The induction of the new vehicles is expected to significantly improve transportation and logistics support for police units stationed in difficult terrains and interior regions of Meghalaya, where accessibility often remains a challenge. Officials believe the enhanced mobility will help police personnel respond more swiftly during emergencies, law-and-order situations, disaster response operations, and public safety missions.

The move also reflects the Meghalaya government’s continued focus on modernising policing infrastructure and strengthening public security systems. Improved transportation facilities are considered crucial for effective surveillance, patrolling, and timely intervention, particularly in geographically challenging areas of the northeastern state.

The newly flagged-off vehicles are likely to be distributed across multiple districts and police units to ensure wider coverage and efficient utilisation. The initiative is being seen as a major infrastructural boost for the Meghalaya Police, especially at a time when states across the country are increasingly focusing on modern technology and mobility-driven policing systems.

Security experts have often highlighted that faster response time and better field mobility are among the key factors that directly influence public confidence in law enforcement agencies. With the addition of the new fleet, Meghalaya Police is expected to further strengthen its operational preparedness and public outreach capabilities.

The event underscored the state government’s commitment toward equipping security forces with modern resources while also acknowledging the role played by police personnel in maintaining peace and stability across Meghalaya.
