MHA Rejects Kuki-Zo Demand for Separate Union Territory in Manipur

The Ministry of Home Affairs has declined the Kuki-Zo groups’ demand for a Union Territory with a legislature in Manipur. During the November 6–7 talks in Delhi, MHA adviser A.K. Mishra said government policy doesn’t support creating new Union Territories and emphasized dialogue with other communities.

The Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People’s Front (UPF) urged the Centre to reconsider, citing the ongoing conflict with Meiteis. The talks also reviewed the implementation of the September 4 tripartite agreement and local governance issues.
