Minor Girl Dies from Suspected Food Poisoning After Naam Kirtan in South Kamrup
A minor girl in Sanpara, South Kamrup, died from suspected food poisoning on Thursday after a Naam Kirtan ceremony. Around 70-90 attendees fell ill after consuming Prasad, experiencing severe symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea within 24 hours.
Many affected individuals required urgent medical attention and were taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Local residents allege that delays and negligence by medical staff and ambulance services worsened the situation, contributing to the girl’s death.
Currently, 12 patients, including three children, are still being treated at GMCH. Community members are demanding an investigation into the emergency response and local health services’ preparedness. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the food poisoning and potential lapses in food preparation and distribution during the Naam Kirtan ceremony.
