Morigaon Farmers Achieve Success in Melon Cultivation and Export
Farmers in Assam’s Morigaon district exported 12 tons of watermelons to Bihar, thanks to the agriculture department’s support. Using improved seeds, progressive farmer Hemanta Deka cultivated watermelons on three bighas and sold them at ₹10/kg in Bihar.
Lohit Deka, another farmer from Bardia village, successfully grew musk melons using improved seeds. Selling at ₹50/kg locally, he expects earnings of ₹3 lakh this season.
The agriculture department’s efforts have boosted financial gains and inspired farmers to explore melon cultivation, expanding Morigaon’s reach in national markets.
