NGOs in Assam Hope to End Child Marriage by 2030 After SC Guidelines
Civil society organizations in Assam are optimistic about eradicating child marriage by 2030 following the Supreme Court’s recent guidelines. The ‘Just Rights for Children’ Alliance, comprising over 180 NGOs, including the Association for Voluntary Action and Kosi Lok Manch, is committed to supporting the state government in this mission. The Supreme Court’s judgment outlines a prevention, protection, and prosecution model under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA) 2006. The Alliance, already using its PICKET strategy, has prevented over 120,000 child marriages in the past year.
