One person is killed when Manipur police open fire on a mob that was trying to steal weapons

A 27-year-old man died after police fired at a mob attempting to raid an armoury of the 3rd India Reserve Battalion (IRB) in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Tuesday.

The incident came hours after arsonists burned down the Churachandpur house of a spokesperson for one of the two ceasefire-bound Kuki outfits that called off their blockade of NH-2 last Sunday.

The mob trying to storm the IRB camp at Wangbal, about 30km from Imphal, had attacked security personnel with stones and slingshots, prompting pol-ice to first use tear gas and then fire at them, sources said.
