ONGC Assures Action on Sivasagar Gas Leak, Probe Initiated

ONGC has confirmed its commitment to containing the gas leak at Bhatiapar-Barichuk in Assam’s Sivasagar district, calling it a “rare geological phenomenon.” Executive Director Bhaskar Choudhury stated the incident is unprecedented in 60 years of data. An internal probe is underway to find the cause and implement future safeguards. ONGC is using water pumping to control the leak, with pressure levels now decreasing. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged urgent action in a letter to Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who confirmed advanced techniques and global expert consultation are in progress.
