Patient Commits Suicide in Assam Medical College After Successful Surgery
A shocking incident occurred at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) when a patient, Bihari Karmakar, was found hanging from a fan in a surgical ward on Thursday. Karmakar had been admitted for a gallbladder operation, which was conducted successfully.
Dr. Prasanta Dihingia, the college superintendent, reported that Karmakar was moved to surgical ward unit 4 post-surgery and was under the care of nurses. However, around 2 am, the nurses left the room to attend to another patient requiring immediate medical attention. During this brief period, Karmakar locked his door and hanged himself.
This tragic event has raised serious questions about hospital security and patient monitoring, highlighting the need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
