POCSO Court Denies Bail to Doctor Accused of Child Abuse in Guwahati

The Kamrup metro special POCSO court in Guwahati has refused to grant bail to Dr. Sangeeta Dutta, accused of serious crimes involving the abuse of her adopted minor children. Dr. Dutta, along with her husband Dr. Waliul Islam and their house help Lakhi Rai, faced allegations of physical and sexual abuse against their two adopted minors. The court also denied bail to Dr. Islam and Lakhi Rai. The case gained attention in May 2023 when the Guwahati Police arrested the doctor couple. Continuous hearings took place over the last five days, leading to the court’s decision. Advocate Deepa Bezbaruah served as the public prosecutor in the case.
