Political Row Erupts Over Gorukhuti Agriculture Project Cow Distribution

The Gorukhuti Multipurpose Agriculture Project has sparked controversy over alleged irregularities in distributing Gir cows. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi demanded a probe, accusing misuse of public funds and allocation of cows to MLAs. In an RTI reply, 90 of 300 cows were reportedly distributed to public representatives due to poor infrastructure. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed only “sick” cows were sold to willing legislators. Gogoi has written to the PM seeking an inquiry into the scheme funded by over ₹25.5 crore, citing a lack of transparency and accountability.
